Fluent in several styles of singing soprano Helen White brings to any stage the resilient beauty of not just great sound but extraordinary presence. Helen White first got her roots singing in her mother’s family gospel group and touring area St. Louis churches. Helen’s articulate approach to singing music was first identified by her high school teacher and suggested that Helen audition with the St. Louis Opera Theatre youth program “Artist-in-Training” program. After successfully auditioning and completing the program it became undeniably clear that the performing arts would be the way that Helen would make her mark in the world.

She began her studies at the University of Kentucky where she majored in vocal performance, and later would complete her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in music education. Between the transition of schools, Helen studied with the St. Louis Black Repertoire Theatre and appeared on several television specials and competitions. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Helen went to study with Leontine Hass at the musical theatre, Associated Studios London/UK, Graham Hurman (US/UK Musical Tours Director), James Hopson (West End Casting), Rosemary Ashe (“Carlotta”, Phantom OBC), Kate Golledge (Director), Hannah Waddington (Oliver Award Nominee), Matt Rawle (Zorro, Evita), Gareth Valentine (Musical Director/Composer), Michael England (Musical Director). It is from here Helen worked for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line as a member of their resident entertainment line-up Production shows including: “Chicago”, “Hairspray”, “Little Shop of Horror”, and “West Side Story”. From featured singer to lead singer Helen’s musical path went from cruise liner to musical theatre with role in the cast of Porgy and Bess with director Charles Randolph-Wright. Helen’s demonstrated range has afforded her opportunities to be a session singer for several artists. Having previous experience in the operatic arts at the University of Kentucky production of the “Magic Flute” in the role of Spirit and “Falstaff” as Meg this opportunity was a touchstone that Helen was all too familiar.

Helen is an overall winner for the “Gospel Focus Competition” in Chicago, Illinois, 1st place NAACP-St. Louis Chapter “Act-So Award”, 1st place Monsanto Award and scholarship and host of other awards and recognitions to her credit.
