Joy McKay is originally from Texas where she began her professional training career at Humphrey School of Musical Theatre. She was a lead perform in the Stephen Schwartz Project at Theater Under The Stars under the direction of Roy Hamlin and Shay Rodgers. After graduating high school she trained at the University of North Texas, majoring in Vocal Performance with a minor in Theatre. She did professional theatre in Texas performing as a dancer at Lyric Stage,Irving in Funny Girl where she became EMC eligible. She also studied with Betty Buckley in Fort Worth in song interpretation technique.
Joy then moved to New York City where she attended the American Musical Dramatic Academy to pursue her goals. Since graduating Joy has been a part of several new works including 2 different versions of the show Unturning At the Secret Theater participating in the Unfringed festival and Venus/Adonis Festival. She also was the lead actress in the show Discovering Magenta that participated in the Thespis Festival and is on the original cast album. Joy was also Margot in the off off Broadway production of Legally Blonde at the John Desotlle Theatre. She also has experience in children’s theater as she was part of Galli Theater Company where she performed in Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty and Snow Queen.
Joy has also dipped her toes in TV/Film where she was given a day played role as a hippie on Orange is the new Black. She has participated as a dancer in Stuck, Flesh and Bone, and Mister Robot. She was also a principal Pageant contestant in the web series Math Warriors. Also, a principal runner in a regional Kohls commercial. Joy hopes to continue building her resume and experience. She works part time as a ballet teacher at her own studio : Dance with Joy. Don’t just dance for fun, dance with Joy!
