Kelly Glyptis, a lyric soprano currently based in the Washington, D.C. area, performs both opera and musical theater regularly. She recently performed in Speed Dating Tonight and covered Alcina in Alcina with Fargo-Moorhead Opera, performed Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte with the Shreveport Opera, was Little Red Riding Hood, the cover for Mimi in La boheme, and Cupid in Orpheus in the Underworld at Virginia Opera and has performed with the Prizery Theater as The Witch in Into the Woods, Morticia in The Addams Family, Anita in West Side Story, and Nettie in Carousel. Miss Glyptis made her professional debut with the Atlanta Opera as Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia and has been seen in concert with OperaDelaware, Baltimore Concert Opera, George Mason University. She has performed with Cardinal Stage, Gray Ghost Theater, Pied Piper Theatre, Manassas Chorale, and Dominion Stage, and was the soprano soloist in Verdi’s Requiem, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and Beatrice in A View From The Bridge at Indiana University where she performed numerous other leading roles and received a M.M. in Voice.
Glyptis was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Indiana District and has won encouragement awards at the D.C. and N.C. Districts and Chicago Region. She was a semi-finalist for the Paris Opera Awards, Nicholas Loren, and Mary Smith Singer of the Year Competitions and is a winner of the Hellenic American Women’s Council award. She was also a recipient of the IU Music Merit Award, Jacobs Access Grant, Friday Musicale Scholarship and the Christ-Marchant Friends of Music Award. Miss Glyptis has trained at the Maryland Lyric Opera Young Artist Program, Virgina Opera Herndon Emerging Young Artist Program, Fargo-Moorhead Gate City Bank Young Artist Program, Potomac Vocal Institute, Bel Canto in Tuscany, The Washington National Opera Institute, Operafestival di Roma, Canadian Operatic Arts Academy, Charley Creek Workshop and IU Opera Workshops.
Miss Glyptis is also recognized by the Society of American Fight Directors as a Certified Actor/Combatant in Rapier/Dagger, Broadsword, Sword and Shield, and Unarmed combat; as well as trained in knife, quarterstaff, single sword, small sword, and whip. Glyptis has been a fight captain, consultant, and choreographer for the London Opera in Canada, IU Opera Theater, Pied Piper Theater, Chopticon Players, and Rooftop Productions. Her upcoming engagements include The Foreign Woman and cover of Magda Sorel in The Consul and Sir Elton John’s Trainer in Vickensport, or the Finch Opera at Saratoga Opera.
