Mattie Jo is a New York based, Midwest-raised actress who is everyone’s quirky best friend. She graduated with her BFA in Musical Theatre from Missouri State University (go bears!) in 2013. After a summer of earning EMC points performing in Tent Theatre’s production of Damn Yankees, she made her big move to the City. Once there, she was promptly accepted and attended the Open Jar Institute (Jeff Whiting, Susan Stroman, Bob Cline). Since her move she has been traveling and performing consistently.
Mattie Jo recently returned from a five-month contract with RWS & Associates/Binder Casting starring in Fairytale High as Little Red (Tinkerbell, Miss Muffit, and Cinderella SWING). She has starred in Thunder Bay Theatre’s Footloose as your favorite preacher’s daughter, Ariel as well as the not-so-popular over confident Sharpay in High School Musical. In 2014 she made her New York City stage performance debut as Mae in the Alpha NYC’s production of Reefer Madness.
Some of Mattie Jo’s favorite work is her involvement in the development of new musicals. She has been invited to participate in multiple staged readings and recordings at NYU’s Musical Theatre Graduate Program including Lady Mercy, Teach For A…While, the MT ‘14 Cabaret Series, and The Compass to name a few. In 2014 Mattie Jo was cast in the reading of Dangerous: The Musical as Myrtle directed and written by Jeff Whiting (Tony Award Winner). Last March she starred as Faith in Buffy: Once More With Feeling, a musical satire adaptation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer at the West End Lounge.
In January of 2014, Mattie Jo was cast as a featured role in MatchMakr: A web Series and has since been written as a recurring role scheduled to start filming this Spring. Mattie Jo also enjoys comedic storytelling of real life events in her blog, The Mattie Jo Memoirs. She is currently rehearsing for an improve showcase with the Magnet Theatre and can’t wait to make you laugh in her next performance!
