Melanie Leinbach, soprano, originally from Charlottesville Virginia, has established herself as a versatile performer in opera and musical theater. In the summer of 2015, she joined the Danis Wilson Apprentice Program at Sugar Creek Opera where she covered the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute. Melanie also sang her first Cunegonde in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide with Emerald City Opera. Next year, she will sing Magnolia in Showboat with Fiddlehead Theater in Boston, MA.

Melanie spent the 2013-2014 season as a Resident Artist with Tri-Cities Opera where she performed Frasquita (Carmen), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), and one of her favorite comediennes Adele (Die Fledermaus). She also performed the role of Gretel in Hansel & Gretel with Opera Oggi in New York City. The 2011- 2012 season, found Melanie in the Boston area in the role of First Fairy in the New England premier of Michael Ching’s a cappella opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Edith in The Pirates of Penzance with Fiddlehead Theater.

She earned a BA with Highest Distinction in Music and Archaeology from the University of Virginia and her MM at the New England Conservatory. While at NEC, she portrayed Princess Feanichton in Offenbach’s Ba-ta-clan, Lakmé in Lakmé, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute for which she was praised in The Boston Musical Intelligencer for her “brilliance and poise, amidst all her coloratura fireworks”.
