Tye Roberson is a versatile artist who Acts and Sings. Tye’s 2015 performance of The Black Russian. A one man show telling the story of Frederick Bruce Thomas was greatly received by the audience of Moscow 57 in New York City. 2014 found Tye performing at Portland Center Stage in Dreamgirls as Marty. Tye loves to explore new projects that participate in his growth as an artist. Whether they are film, television, voice-overs, musical theater or opera, Tye is ready to take the ride.
Tye was fortunate to have played the role of Cord Elam in Portland Center Stage’s production of an all-African American cast of Oklahoma in 2011 which recieved great reviews. The following year in 2012 Tye played the role of Tom Collins in Bristol Riverside’s production of Rent. In prior years Tye participated in New York City Opera’s Live from Lincoln Center Historical airing of Porgy and Bess and their production of Margret Garner.
Tye grew up singing, playing piano, organ and conducting his father’s choir at church which developed a great love of Negro Spirituals and Gospel Music and has toured extensively throughout Europe and South America singing these genres. Tye’s rich baritone voice has given way to opportunities in doing voice-overs for companies like DDO and The New York Historic Society. Tye studied classical voice at The Manhattan School of Music.
