Hailed by the Chautauqua Daily for having “seeming a major find “, Yujoong Kim recently completed his tenure as a member of the Young Artist Development Program at the Zürich Opera.

Yujoong Kim will make his Concertgebouw debut as Yamadori in Madama Butterfly in the 2015-2016 season. Additionally, Mr. Kim will tour the United States and Canada in concert as part of the Juilliard Historical Department’s Telemann’s Cantata. In the 2014-2015 season, he sang Tanzmeister in Ariadne auf Naxos conducted by Maestro Fabio Luisi and made an auspicious his main role debut as Robin Hood in Robin Hood directed by Andreas Homoki at the Zürich Opera. He also sang the Young Man in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Sir. Hervey in Anna Bolena with Anna Nebtreko, and Harry in La Fanciulla del West with Marco Armiliato conducting. Recently, he performed his third Tamino in Switzerland with Schloss Hallwyl Summer Opera Festival.

Mr. Kim made his role debut as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with Korea National Opera in South Korea where he performed Borsa and Gastone in Seould Arts Center conducted by Stephen Lord. He also made his Lincoln Center debut as Don Ottavio with the Juilliard Opera directed by Stephen Wadsworth and with Gary Wedow conducting.

During the Chautauqua Music Festival 2013, Mr. Kim performed as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni where he also sang Romeo in the world premiere of Romeo+Juliet Project. He made his role debut as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte with Aspen Music Festival where he was raved by the Aspen Times for his “admirable clarity”. In addition to this role, Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore, Belfiore in La finta Giardiniera, Claudio in Wagner’s Das Liebesverbot, Ruggero in La Rondine and Il Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto. He also covered the role of Renaud in the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Diploma Program and Juilliard’s co-production of Armide.

Yujoong Kim made his European debut in Paris with a concert managed by José van Dam at the Musée Jacquemart-André founded by the Edmond de Rothschild foundations and he also performed first concert in Japan with Kiri Te Kanawa. At Alice Tully Hall, Mr. Kim performed with Brian Zeger for Songfest. He has appeared as soloist in several other concerts, including Bach’s Mass in b minor with the L.A. Master Choral, Mozart’s Coronation, and Haydn’s Creation.

Mr. Kim is the recipient of First International Singer Prize
from the Jeunes Amnassadeurs Lyriques
in Montréal. He was the finalist of both 2011 Western and 2012 Eastern regional levels of the Metropolitan Opera National Council as well as the second prize winner of the Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal Competition in 2011.

Tenor Yujoong Kim studied at Seoul National University and the Juilliard School. He sang at Zürich Opera, Seoul National Opera, Aspen Music Festival, Lincoln Center, Juilliard Opera Center, and so on. He worked with conductors such as Maestro Fabio Luisi, Marco Armiliato, and Stephen Lord. He also performed concert in Paris, Zürich, New York City, and Japan. His repertoire includes Don Ottavio(Don Giovanni), Tamino(Die Zauberflöte), Belmote(Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Nemorino(L’elisir d’Amore), Tanzmeister(Ariadne auf Naxos), Ruggero(La Rondine), Robin Hood(Robin Hood) and Alfredo(La Traviata). Last summer he participated at the Music Festival Schloss Hallwyl in Switzerland Tamino. The 2015/16 season he will also sing Yamadori(Madama Butterfly) at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Don Ottavio in NYC.
